Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences

About the Program

The Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences (PGSS) is a rigorous summer program that allows students to engage in the sciences, be challenged intellectually, and develop personally. With admittance based upon merit and not tuition or boarding expenses, PGSS allows students to attend regardless of gender, ethnicity, or socioeconomic background.

Through private and public funding, PGSS runs as an annual program that fosters scientific thinking, scholarly collaboration, and interpersonal connections in our society while encouraging women and minority students to consider scientific careers.

About the Campaign

The PGSS Alumni Association (PGSSAA) is a non-profit organization established by alumni of the former Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences (PGSS). The members of the PGSSAA believe it is important to promote the teaching of evidence-based science, mathematics, and computer science at the secondary school level and to encourage students who demonstrate an aptitude for mathematics and science to pursue science-based careers.

As alumni of the former PGSS, we recognize the importance of bringing students together to engage them intellectually as well as socially. One of the main goals of the PGSSAA, after establishing a network of alumni, is to raise funds for the re-establishment of a school in Pennsylvania like the former PGSS, ensuring that future generations of students benefit from the experience that meant so much to each of us.
